A plan
Now that I have an established idea, I started planning the process of making it a reality, I split the project into 3 main parts: the story and branches, the mechanics, and the 3D modeling. And I decided to work on them in parallel, sort of as a way to help me not lose motivation and feel like I’m still making progress instead of getting stuck on one part and just feeling like I’m making zero progress and give up all together, especially since my confidence in my abilities get worse from 3D modeling to programming to story writing, this way if it all goes south I can push myself up by making progress on the 3D modeling side of things, as I’m the most comfortable in it.
I wrote down the main key points of the story and a basic structure to some branches, I won’t be revealing much about the story anytime soon, not until I make some good progress on it at least, but I have a basic structure for it, with that I know what the environment is going to be, a family house.
I decided to make the whole game inside one small place, for the main reason of not overwhelming myself, so the plan is to keep it small and simple. another great advantage to working on one small environment, is that I can truly hand craft it completely, I decided that I will be Modeling almost everything from scratch, as I feel, especially with something focused on the environment like this, that everything should be hand crafted to fit together perfectly, and using generic blocks in most cases will make it lose some character.
Knowing that I wanted a small House, I went to the architecture side of things, designing a small house for a small family. And after a few hours on Revit, this came up:
I didn’t care for how it would look from the outside, as I’m not planning to have the player to go outside the house, instead I tried to make a believable layout for a small house.
With that, I was finally ready to start modeling.
In the next devlog, I will talk about my 3D modeling process and workflow.
